Evaluate X.509 based Strong Authentication

M-Vault is a high performance Directory Server product, including replication, high functionality access control and security management, X.500 support, graphical administration tools, and Web access. M-Vault also supports X.509 based strong authentication, also referred to as X.509 PKI (Public Key Infrastructure). You can read more about Isode's strong authentication infrastructure here.

Evaluation Objectives

This evaluation will guide you through the process of configuring Isode's M-Vault Directory Server to be able to use X.509 based strong authentication. After completing this evaluation you will have:

Learned about the main concepts involved in configuring and managing an X.509 based
environment.
Gained an understanding of how to use Isode's Mini CA tool.
Created a local Certificate Authority.
Generated Certificate Signing Requests (CSRs) for Directory Servers and Clients
Used the CA to issue certificates corresponding to CSRs.
Configured and used strong authentication using Sodium, signed operations and replication between two Directory Servers using strong authentication.
Learned about the main concepts involved in configuring and managing an X.509
based environment.

Getting Started

The only requirement for this evaluation is that you are familiar with Isode's M-Vault Directory Server and have it available on a suitable test system. The M-Vault evaluation files can be found here.
