BackgroundThe International Civil Aviation Authority (ICAO) have specified a new standard for the exchange of ground to ground messages in the aviation industry. These messages include such items as flight plans and weather reports - information critical to the smooth flow of worldwide air traffic. This new standard 'Air Traffic Services (ATS) Message Handling Services' (or AMHS) is based on a recognised ISO standard for email exchange known as X.400. X.400 is particularly well suited to the provision of critical, assured messaging providing many more facilities that enable medium and high grade message processing than available with standard internet-based mail. You can find out more about X.400 and it's use in both the Aviation and Military markets by reading our whitepaper 'Providing Reliable Message Transport using X.400'. You can find other Isode whitepapers relevant to the Aviation market here. Why Isode?Isode is a leader in X.400 technology. We are one of the few companies with the committed engineering resources necessary to support and maintain development of products in this arena. Isode and it's partners have been vocal in their support of the advantages of the new messaging system and in mid-2004 published a manifesto outlining our continued support for this new standard. Out of 31 countries that have made an AMHS purchasing decision, 25 have opted for systems using Isode servers bought from Isode Partners. Where do Isode's products fit into a solution?Isode is not a total solutions provider in this arena. We provide the servers, management tools and APIs (Application Programming Interface) necessary for Systems Integrators providing the ground to ground messaging systems. For this market Isode provides:
