Isode Military Messaging enhancements open up major opportunities
for vendors of Communication Systems using HF Radio and Satellite.
Isode, a leading supplier of military messaging and
directory server products, is pleased to announce support for two important
military messaging standards (STANAG 4406 Annexe E and ACP 142) within
M-Switch X.400, its X.400 military message transfer agent.
(June 22nd, 2006) - Isode, a leading supplier of military messaging
and directory server products, is pleased to announce support for two
important military messaging standards (STANAG 4406 Annexe E and ACP
142) within M-Switch X.400, its X.400 military message transfer agent.
In operational military deployments, high speed communication channels
are not always available, with links using technologies such as HF Radio
often restricted to as little as 300 baud. Receivers may also need to
maintain radio silence (EMCON) to prevent detection, and so only have
one way communication. In these environments specialized messaging applications
need to make maximum use of available bandwidth, standards have evolved
to deal with these situations.
STANAG 4406 is the NATO standard for formal messaging. Annexe E enhances
STANAG 4406 for use with ACP 142, a CCEB (Combined Communications-Electronics
Board - AU, CA, NZ, US, UK) standard for multicast messages in constrained
bandwidth and delayed acknowledgement environments (known as Emission
Control or 'EMCON' – units receiving but not broadcasting messages).
This combination may be used with Satellite communication or with HF
Radios based on the STANAG 5066 standard.
Isode servers provide the core message transfer infrastructure for
a Military messaging system and the clean APIs of the Isode products
will lead to opportunities for communication channel vendors who wish
to integrate M-Switch X.400 as part of their solution.
These new M-Switch X.400 capabilities are currently in beta with partner
Boldon James, who have already used Isode's X.400 Gateway API to integrate
M-Switch X.400 and its Annexe E/ACP 142 capabilities with Microsoft
Exchange on Windows. Boldon James will be demonstrating this capability
at CWID 06 (Coalition Warrior Interoperability Demonstration) as part
of the ATLAS Consortium Defence Information Infrastructure (DII) demonstrations
this month.
Isode CEO Steve Kille, commented: "NATO nations are going to make
increased use of STANAG 4406 Annexe E and ACP 142. We believe that this
will lead to significant opportunities for vendors of messaging systems
to benefit from Isode server products which have already proven themselves
in other industries and have been developed from day one with the core
military profiles in mind."
More information on Isode's messaging servers is available from our
military solutions page. A
recent Isode whitepaper that gives more information on Annexe E/ACP
142 and the scenarios that this combination is intended to address is
available from the Isode website.
Information on the full range of Isode military products can be found
here.
The Coalition Warrior Interoperability Demonstration (CWID) is a US
program with participation by Australia, Canada, NATO Allied Command
Transformation(ACT), New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. The role of
CWID is to demonstrate and evaluate new, evolving and commercially available
low risk technologies that improve Joint, Combined or Coalition interoperability,
or that enhance information provision through the use of networked communication
Information Systems (CIS).
