(LONDON. - Sep 8, 2004) - Isode announces Release 10.5 of its AMHS solution, including an ATN Directory, AMHS Messaging Servers, and Java and 'C' APIs for integration with ATC and ATM applications. This new release contains three notable firsts for the AMHS industry:
- The first core technology provider to meet the requirements of the AMHS Manifesto.
- The first to provide a SARPS conformant ATN Directory, essential in the deployment of many of the services defined by the ICAO within the AMHS specifications and the broader ATN system.
- The first to provide Extended ATS Message Service conformant MTA and Message Store, as defined within the EUR AMHS Target Profile.
On June 14 2004, five companies operating in the AMHS market ( Artemis Communications, Avitech, Global Weather Dynamics Inc., Isode and RDC Comunicaciones S.A. / Radiocom, Inc) released the AMHS Manifesto, stating their intent to develop systems achieving Extended ATS Message Service compliance via conformance to the EUR AMHS Target Profile. Their belief being that this approach offers significant improvements to the current industry focus on Basic ATS compliance, by immediately enabling ATC organizations to take advantage of new capabilities of AMHS and to make transition from current services simpler and more convenient.
The ATN Directory is an important component of the ATN. It is a vital component of AMHS, but is also necessary for other elements of the ATN, including a general information service for ATN users, storage and management of configuration information for ATN switches and a repository for information necessary for provision of ATN Security Services.
Isode's R10.5 Directory Server product, M-Vault X.500, is the first directory offered in the ATN industry to meet SARPs compliance, including:
- Support of the full ATN Directory Schema.
- Access using SARPs conformant X.500 DAP (Directory Access Protocol) or with LDAP (Lightweight DAP).
- Replication of data between directory servers, using X.500 DISP (Directory Information Shadowing Protocol).
Isode’s R10.5 AMHS product set, which is the first to conform to the EUR AMHS Target Profile, comprises:
- M-Switch X.400. An X.400 Message Transfer Agent (MTA).
- M-Store X.400. An X.400 Message Store.
- M-Vault X.500. An X.500 Directory Server.
- AMHS Client API. A ‘C’ and Java API, to enable ATC and ATM applications to utilize AMHS communications,
- AMHS Gateway API. A ‘C’ API, for building an AFTN/AMHS or CIDIN/AMHS Gateway.
The EUR AMHS Target Profile extends the ICAO SARPs Basic Message Service to include additional service functionality and support for ICAO SARPs ATS Extended Message Service, with the exception of security. Isode AMHS products now meet all of the major functional areas of the ICAO SARPs specifications, including:
- A fully SARPS Conformant ATN Directory
- AMHS Routing, with M-Vault X.500 holding the schema and M-Switch X.400 and M-Store X.400 performing the routing
- Extended ATS Message Service Conformant MTA
- Extended ATS Message Service Conformant Message Store (excluding security)
- ATN Directory Support for AFTN Address mapping, White pages, PKI and Security, ATC Resources and ATN Data Management Tools
- Systems Management providing all the management functionality implied by the SARPs specifications.
Commenting on the 10.5 Release and its relevance to the AMHS market, Isode CEO Steve Kille said: "We have long said that the Extended ATS Message Service, via the route of the EUR AMHS Target Profile, was within reach of customers today and that the focus on Basic was a direct result of some suppliers being unwilling to invest in the technologies necessary to meet a real customer need. With Release 10.5 we have proven that to be the case."
Notes for editors
The aviation industry is adopting AMHS (Air Traffic Services (ATS) Message Handling Services) to support ground-to-ground communications for services such as flight plans and meteorological data, to replace the current AFTN (Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network) and CIDIN (Common ICAO Data Interchange Network) based systems.
AMHS has been defined as a standard by the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) via a series of SARPS (Standard and Recommended Practices) outlining the requirements of this new standard. The ICAO has set two levels of compliance with the new standard, Basic and Extended ATS Message Service compliance.
The EUR AMHS Target Profile has been defined by the Eurocontrol Agency, Directorate ATM Strategies (DAS), Communication & Surveillance Management Unit (CSM) and endorsed by the ICAO.
