Internet Messaging Administrator - System Administration

 

Isode's Internet Messaging Administrator is a web-based interface with functionality for Top-Level (System) Administrators, Domain Owners (Delegated Administrators) and messaging account End-Users.

Functionality

The interface for Top-Level Administrators gives access to:

• Shared Folder Manager

The content and appearance of all elements of the Internet Message Administrator are extremely customizable and can be easily modified to suit in-house requirements.

Directory Configuration Browser

Whilst it is possible to configure M-Box without a directory Isode recommends that directory based configuration be used wherever possible. The Directory Configuration Browser allows an administrator to examine current directory configuration settings.

Message Store Configuration Manager

Edit the Message Store Configuration including message size quota, delivery options and timeouts. The configuration manager also allows M-Box to be configured as a POP/IMAP Gateway, enabling mail clients to access POP mailboxes using IMAP.

Shared Folder Manager

Each user has an inbox into which new messages are delivered. As well as additional folders that the end-user might create, M-Box also supports 'shared folders'. Internet Messaging Administrator allows the administrator to define shared folders and to specify what level of access users (either as individuals or as members of a group) have to the shared folder hierarchies.

User Manager

The User Manager allows administrators to create, manage and delete user email accounts and includes the ability to set per user mailbox quotas. This functionality is also available to Delegated Administrators for users within their managed domains.

Top-level administrators can also grant users access to shared folder roots, and assign 'Roles' to users, such as giving a user Delegated Administration rights.

Roles

Roles are the group names for collections of functionality. These roles can be assigned to a user or users. An example Role is 'Delegated Administrator' which, when assigned to a user, gives that user delegated administration rights (add/modify/delete) over users associated with a Realm.

Groups & Realms

Groups are collections of users who are members of a Realm (Realm might be an Internet domain such as 'isode.com').

Groups can comprise all of the users associated with a domain, a subset of users or a collection of users from different domains. These groups can then be given read/write/manage access to root shared mail folders. Examples of this might include:

• CEO's of different subsidiaries of a conglomerate (each having their own domain) who are assigned to a 'management' group, with that group then being given read access to the shared folder roots of all domains within the conglomerate.
• Managers within a subsidiary who collectively are given access to a shared folder in which messages relevant to management discussions are stored and which is not available to a wider group of users within that subsidiary.

Realms can be limited to a maximum number of users and a maximum number of accessible shared folders.
