M-Vault
is a high performance LDAP Server, with replication, advanced security
features, and flexible cross platform management tools. M-Vault is ideal
for any ISP or organization needing a high performance LDAP Server.
M-Vault is sold as an LDAP Server, although the core product is an
integrated LDAP/X.500 server. M-Vault is also sold as M-Vault
X.500, and the product overview describes X.500 conformance. All
supported X.500 capabilities such as replication and access control
are available in M-Vault.
Key Benefits
There are many reasons why the M-Vault Server is the right choice for
providing directory services, including:
Scalability and High Performance
A single server can contain millions of entries. Benchmarking demonstrates
that M-Vault read, search and modification functionality compares
very favourably with other products (more).
Reliability and Fault Tolerance
M-Vault uses an underlying high-end database transaction subsystem,
which provides assurance that hardware, operating system or application
failures will not corrupt a directory server database. This transaction
support also enables on-line backup procedures for disaster-recovery.
Data can be replicated using X.500 DISP (Directory Information Shadowing
Protocol). This enables the various servers in a distributed directory
to hold local copies of data held elsewhere in order to ensure data
is available if one server in the network goes down. This scheme can
also be used to configure a failover cluster, ensuring that mission
critical data is always available (more).
Replication, Data Distribution and Security
Data can be distributed across servers using X.500 DSP (Directory
System Protocol). Enterprise LDAP servers can also be connected into
a distributed directory using inbuilt LDAP chaining technology.
Data can be replicated between servers using X.500 DISP (Directory
Information Shadowing Protocol), and this capability is crucial in
most M-Vault deployments. Isode provides flexible replication management
and replication filtering.
Server to server communication (DSP Chaining and DISP Replication)
are secured using X.509 PKI based strong
authentication.
LDAP communication between the client and the directory server can
be performed using a secure SSL/TLS session thus enabling encryption
and data integrity on the link. Additionally, SSL/TLS can offer optional
authentication of the server, or of both the client and the server.
LDAP users can authenticate using standard SASL mechanisms (more).
Manageability
Advanced configuration and data management tools. These enable the
server to be easily deployed and managed in a wide range of intranet
and extranet environments. You can find out more about management
tools and options in the M-Vault
Management section.
Standards conformance
Direct support for LDAP, enabling effective support of LDAP clients
and LDAP enabled applications. X.500 and LDAP protocol support enables
interoperability with other directory servers (more).
