The M-Switch products can be used as a boundary messaging system switching messages, conducting local delivery functions (such as passing messages to M-Box for access by email clients) and performing value added processing on messages in transit, including Anti-Spam and Anti-Virus.
M-Switch has comprehensive audit logging, which records details of message information, submission, transfer and delivery.
The Audit Database stores structured audit log data from one or more M-Switch servers in an ODBC database and is used by Isode tools for management reporting, message tracking and quarantine management.

As a Message Transfer Agent, M-Switch SMTP can deliver messages for anti-spam/virus checking and pass messages onto a POP or IMAP message store for access by email clients.
Isode's own Anti-Spam and Anti-Virus products (M-Switch Anti-Spam and M-Switch Anti-Virus) and Isode's POP/IMAP message store (M-Box) are ideal products to perform these functions although M-Switch SMTP will also integrate well with existing products performing these tasks.
The architecture of the Message Switch, the management tools, and directory based configuration combine to give a very high degree of customer flexibility. You can read more about M-Switch SMTP here.
A flexible server-based solution that defeats spam before it reaches the user's desktop, M-Switch Anti-Spam achieves 97%+ accuracy on 'spam' and 99% accuracy on 'possible spam' together with a message processing rate that exceeds 50 messages per second on a small server platform.
M-Switch Anti-Spam uses a number of different, complementary techniques to determine the "Spam Score" of a message. You can use any or all of these techniques. Isode have been adding regularly to the techniques in order to maintain high levels of accuracy in spam detection, and will continue to add more as they are developed.
Currently supported are content filtering, grey listing, phone & URL blacklists, subject line matching, originator matching, host matching, real time black hole lists, message characteristic checking, network address checking, obfuscation techniques and trigraph checking. The complementary M-Switch Anti-Virus package adds server-level virus checks to the protection given to the user. You can read more about M-Switch Anti-Virus here.

M-Switch supports configuration by use of text tables, that may be indexed in a hash database or, the preferred method, by making use of directory and the included Enterprise Message Management & Administration tool, EMMA.
EMMA is a specialized Directory User Agent (DUA) which updates information in the directory relating to the configuration of the messaging servers. EMMA's graphical interfaces are designed to provide a straightforward interface for simple tasks, using wizards and simple front screens with defaults, while giving access to more detailed configuration control where needed.

Operational management tools include message tracking, message quarantine and comprehensive statistical reporting, all functions delivered via the Message Operator Interface and enabled by the Audit Database. You can find out more operational management by following this link.
