The threat from web-based email
Retaining the mindshare of customers is important in retaining their business. Increasingly, when it comes to email, that mindshare is being eroded by other email offerings. Customers who signed up for web-based mail services (like the Google Mail™ webmail service) intending to use it as a secondary account are increasingly using that service as their primary account, due in part to the excellent anti-spam and search capabilities those services provide.
With services like the Google Mail™ webmail service also offering mail forwarding services the link between the traditional email service provider and the customer is being further eroded.
The mobile email gateway allows email service providers to wrest back control of their customers by allowing them to offer, as a premium service, efficient mobile access to all email accounts.
