LDAP is Internet standard directory access protocol. LDAP directories are ideal for use where there is a requirement for very high access performance for large volumes of data, standard protocol access to data with a core standard schema and the ability to easily extend schema definitions.

Why M-Vault?

Isode's M-Vault provides high-performance, replicated and managed LDAP infrastructure which can be accessed by LDAP applications and services using any widely available LDAP toolkit, often in the context of web applications. M-Vault features:

High Performance

M-Vault manages millions of entries and processes tens of thousands of queries per second. Performance can be monitored and tune based on usage and service needs. Benchmarking of the R10.1 M-Vault is described in Comparative Performance Benchmarking of Isode M-Vault R10.1.

High Availability

A high-end database transaction subsystem provides assurance that hardware, operating system or application features do not corrupt a directory server database. Transaction support also enables online backup procedures for disaster recovery. M-Vault supports failover clustering to enable high server availability and Off Site Hot Standby (Disaster Recovery).

Flexible replication between servers provides high availability read access, and a straightforward mechanism to horizontally scale performance by adding more servers.

Powerful Cross-Platform Tools

M-Vault features the most powerful and flexible directory management tools available. Our Linux, Solaris and Windows Management GUIs are designed to enable low-cost management within complex environments.

Server configuration, security control and data administration can be managed centrally or delegated to suppliers, partners or customers. M-Vault has the flexibility to allow you to define different access profiles for the multiple administrative, management and user groups requiring a relationship with data and data administration features.

Security

Server to server communication is secured by strong authentication for chaining and for replication of queries.

Secure client access is provided by LDAP over SSL/TLS (Secure Sockets Layer, Transport Layer Security) enabling online encryption and preservation of information confidentiality (including user names and passwords). SASL provides a flexible authentication mechanism, with support for a wide choice of authentication protocols, including strong authentication using TLS. M-Vault also provides Kerberos support.

Straightforward to install and run, servers can be installed and running within 30 minutes.

Sodium is used to manage the data held in LDAP/X.500 enterprise directory servers. It provides information managers and system administrators with an easy to use Graphical User Interface (more).
