Message Switch

Our Secure Message Switch, M-Switch, provides reliable, security-focused email messaging for Military, Aviation, and Government organizations.

M-Switch is Isode’s high-performance multi-protocol message switch that handles message switching, supporting message submission, delivery, and transfer. M-Switch is central to Isode’s secure messaging solution. Protocols supported include SMTP, STANAG 4406, X.400, ACP 127, and ACP 142.

M-Switch Gateway is a high-performance, versatile Message Server that transfers messages between peer servers and provides and provides relay and protocol conversion services. M-Switch Gateway is used in Commercial, Government, Aviation, and Military systems.

The M-Switch Family

M-Switch is sold as a number of different products, which are all options relating to a single underlying product. M-Switch Gateway is treated as the baseline product, and all detailed product description of core capabilities is associated with M-Switch Gateway.

The M-Switch Gateway product description covers the protocols supported (STANAG 4406, X.400, ACP 127, CFTP, and ACP 142) and key functional and security capabilities.

M-Switch Gateway is also sold in four standard configurations with special product names.

M-Switch SMTP. This product is equivalent to M-Switch Gateway with no options. It is given a special name, as it provides an SMTP Message Transfer Agent (MTA) functionality.
M-Switch X.400. This product provides X.400 Message Transfer Agent (MTA) functionality. It is an M-Switch Gateway with the X.400 option and without SMTP capability. It is part of Isode’s X.400 product family described here.
M-Switch MIXER. This product provides MIXER conversion between SMTP and X.400, following RFC 2156 “MIXER (MIME Internet X.400 Enhanced Relay): Mapping between X.400 and RFC 822/MIME”. It is equivalent to M-Switch Gateway plus X.400 option. Further details are available here.
M-Switch Edge. This product is part of Isode’s Military Messaging Cross Domain solution. It supports conversion to XML for use with Isode’s M-Guard Product. All M-Switch Gateway options can be used with M-Switch Edge. Further details are available here.

M-Switch Gateway is typically deployed as a server system without a user, providing gateway connectivity between different protocols or a simple MTA functionality providing single protocol message relay.

For systems supporting end users, the related product M-Switch User Server is used. This is a part of Isode’s User Messaging family of products described here. M-Switch User Server is priced based on the number of users supported. All of the M-Switch Gateway options, with the exception of ACP 127 Broadcast, are available with M-Switch User Server.
