Isode’s messaging servers provide access with Internet Standard SMTP and IMAP protocols, so that any modern email client can be used with the servers. The servers provide capabilities useful for military messaging, but can be used for a wide range of email services. Harrier, Isode’s messaging client, has a wide range of military messaging and general-purpose email features.
There are three central components to Isode’s user messaging service, shown in the above diagram.
- Harrier is Isode’s messaging client that can be used for email or formal military messaging. It provides security with S/MIME and security labels, and specialized military messaging handling capabilities.
- M-Box provides Internet message storage and is accessed by Harrier using the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP). It is a general-purpose, high-performance message store.
- M-Switch User Server is used by Harrier to submit messages using Simple Message Transfer Protocol (SMTP). It can transfer messages to other message servers using SMTP and provides a wide range of additional capabilities, with options to support additional protocols. M-Switch User Server is monitored and managed with the MConsole tool.
The User Messaging servers use Internet Messaging standards (SMTP and IMAP). Access to other protocols, in particular the ACP 127, ACP 142, and STANAG 4406 military messaging protocols, is provided by M-Switch Gateway, which provides protocol conversion and relay. These protocols can also be provided directly by M-Switch User Server
Underlying the User Messaging Service is Isode’s M-Vault directory service that provides address book and configuration services, supported by Isode’s Cobalt product for provisioning services.
Our User Messaging Products
Harrier
A Military Messaging Client that provides a modern, secure web UI and supports SMTP, STANAG 4406, and ACP 127. Harrier allows authorised users to access role-based mailboxes and respond as a role within an organisation rather than as an individual.
M-Switch User Server
M-Switch User Server provides message submission from a messaging client and local message delivery to a message store. It provides support for various protocols and capabilities, which are also provided by M-Switch Gateway, and are described in detail as part of M-Switch Gateway.
IMAP Message Store
M-Box is a high-performance message store that supports IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol). It provides the message storage and access component for both email and military messaging.
